When locates are required for underground buried utilities, a radial signal is used to determine the exact depth and horizontal orientation. The metallic medium used for the fiber is tracer wire. Tracer wire must be present for each conduit path whether it is direct bury, microduct, microtrench, trench, or a bore shot.
